Cllr Julie Gooding received two official ‘thank you‘ letters at the end of July 2020, on behalf of a community group who called themselves Rochfordppeproject. The initiative began with a few volunteers using their own sewing machines in March 2020, when the pandemic first called for official lockdown.
The NHS procurement team called out for help to provide protective equipment for key workers due to the great demand.
Donations of dentistry Scrubs, forensic equipment and face shields were donated to Mid South Essex hospitals. Staff were calling out for scrubs, hats and isolation gowns, as they were facing shortages which we were able to make. The water resistant reusable gowns were funded by donations and Sanctuary Housing to meet the needs.
As schools began to return, various staff approached us for the protective equipment as they work closely with children, particularly in their Special Educational Needs Disabilities (SEND) department. We were able to provide water resistant gowns and shields to many schools. The letter attached from Glenwood expresses their gratitude which is an example of appreciation felt by the staff. We could not have provided all this PPE without the willingness of our big hearted residents of Rochford District who kindly gave their time to fulfil this project.
