Rochford District Councillors are set to hold a ‘summit meeting’ with regards to unauthorised traveller encampments, in order to address the continuing issues that have been experienced by residents and businesses across the district.
The meeting will be held with Councillors from all Parties, as well as Essex Countywide Traveller Unit, as part of a co-ordinated approach to addressing residents’ concerns and find practical solutions in an endeavour to put a stop to these encampments.
It will be held as a virtual meeting on Zoom at the end of this month, with residents informed of updates going forward.
Leader of Rochford District Council, Cllr Simon Wootton, said: “I have asked for an urgent Members summit to review the approach Rochford District Council takes when unauthorised traveller encampments happen on our open spaces and car parks, and consider a coordinated approach on any additional actions which can be taken to minimise the inconvenience. As local Councillors, we are all acutely aware, and share residents' concerns of the disruption these encampments regularly cause within the community."
